Portrait of Lucas Vorsterman is an original old master print realized in 1740 ca. by one of the artists of Antoon Van Dyck atelier. Signed on the plate in the lower center. Mint condition. Included a Passepartout; 33 x 25.5 cm The artwork represents an important portrait of engraver Lucas Vorsterma (1595–1675) who was a Baroque engraver. He worked with the artists Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck with great technique and well-defined silhouette and hatching, realized in the Flemish area, in the school of Antoon Van Dyck. The work has been realized by one of the artists of the school of Antoon van Dyck (Antwerp, 1599 - London,1641) a great Flemish painter, mainly a portrait painter, who became the first court painter in England after a long stay in Italy. It is universally known for the portraits of the Genoese nobility and of Charles I of England, members of his family and his court. With his method of painting of relaxed elegance, he influenced English portraitists, such as Peter Lely, for the following years. In addition to the portraits, for which he was highly appreciated, he also dealt with biblical and mythological subjects, introducing some remarkable pictorial innovations. He was a pupil and friend of the painter Pieter Paul Rubens, of whom he assimilated the technique and the style.
