Oil painting on canvas. At the top right the signature 'Boffa Nicola Fecit Napoli 1885, by Ascoli Satriano'; At the bottom right the number 591.Esso corresponds to that of exposure to the promoter of fine arts, XLV exposure of Turin of 1886, as shown by the catalog of the same. The great scene is the work of the painter Nicola Boffa, Apulian of origin but then lived in Naples. It tells the dramatic death of the young genius of art Raffaello Sanzio, which took place just 37 years after a few days of a vainly treated persistent fever. Causes of his death were made several hypotheses (syphilis, malaria, pneumonia, poisoning ..) No certain: it is certain that it was a shocking fact in the Renaissance artistic world, in which the young Urbinate had achieved a great fame: it aroused condolence and regret in the same pontifical court, for which Raffaello was working. In the great scene, the Young artist now lives peacefully in his deathbed, while around him men and women of every extraction and social category express their pain and dismay: the high prelate next to the bed in a composed way, while all around young people and women are in Sbar tears, with the culmination of the manifestation of pain on the left, where a young man is going on the ground, comforted by a friar. The scene, albeit highly dramatica, is liven up by bright colors and by a detailed accuracy of the details of the figures; In it we find the nineteenth -century taste for the historical subject, to be told through the images that underline the painted pathos. It is presented in an important coeval setting, in shaped and golden carved wood.
