A waterline model of the M. Y. Gentiana by Bassett-Lowke Ltd., 1955, built by John I. Thornycroft & Co. Limited, mounted on a moulded and painted seascape underway, with builder's and maker's plate, contained within a wood-bound glazed case.
The Motor Yacht Gentiana is a 55 foot (16 meter) twin screw displacement yacht. The ship was designed and constructed by Thornycroft for a client of the company and was equipped with the most advanced technology and yacht construction techniques of its time. The yacht was equipped with all possible spare parts to be able to stay for a minimum of two years independently of the waters it was navigating (some of the spare parts are still on board, however rather as a souvenir or model than as a practical spare part.)
This yacht departed soon after its construction from England through the Bay of Biscaye to Portugal and Gibraltar and made this journey several times. The ship navigated in the Western Mediterranean Sea and hibernated in the south of Spain. In 1992 the current owner bought this ship in Mallorca (Pollença) and brought it to belgium for profound revision (CNR–Shipyard of Rupelmonde.). He navigated in Belgium and the Netherlands and went twice back to the meditarranean Sea via Le Havre and Paris and through the canals, the river Saône and the Rhône. Later the ship went back to the river Schelde in Temse and hibernated in Zeebrugge, Blankenberge and Ostend where the ship is currently moored (Mercatordock).

Le navire a navigué en Méditerranée occidentale et a hiberné dans le sud de l'Espagne. En 1992, le propriétaire actuel a acheté ce navire à Mallorca (Pollença) et l'a amené en Belgique pour une révision profonde (CNR-Chantier naval de Rupelmonde.). Il a navigué en Belgique et aux Pays-Bas et est retourné deux fois à la mer méditerranée via Le Havre et Paris et par les canaux, la Saône et le Rhône.
