Biography
He was born in Mantua on 13 December 1955.
He enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna to graduate in 1978. In 2004 Marco Gradi founded the magazine "La Tenda Rossa", in collaboration with Sabine Frank and Marco Paladini, with the collaboration of Campanotto Editore; The magazine is distributed in Italy by the Feltrinelli bookstores

En 1984, il participe à la Biennale Giovani de Faenza et à la Biennale des jeunes itinérants, éditions toutes deux patronnées par la Galerie municipale d'art moderne de Bologne. Il apparaît également à la Galerie Ferrari de Vérone à deux reprises, présentant avec Zanzibar un important cycle d'œuvres. Suivent le cycle des petits atlas, commandés personnellement à la Corrani Galleria Dì Mantua en 1986, les représentations de L'archipel occidental, présentées à Graz en 1987 et, après avoir participé à la XXXIe édition du prix Suzzara en 1993, à Brescia en 1994, pour arriver au cycle Anambrando réalisé entre 1997 et 1999.
Les installations de Munich, Cologne, Vienne, jusqu'à celles d'Orlando, Floride, et de Tsukuba au Japon datent des années quatre-vingt-dix.

Marco Gradi, en plus de son activité de peintre, s'occupe de recherches sur les œuvres du passé, en adoptant un principe lié à la morphologie de la peinture : conformation, structure, analyse structurelle des pigments, stratigraphie, perception visuelle et sémiologie sur le corps de la peinture. Ses recherches et études portent sur Baschenis, les Espagnols, Domenico Zeni et d'autres artistes aux caractéristiques contemporaines.
En 2004, Marco Gradi a fondé le magazine "La Tenda Rossa", en collaboration avec Sabine Frank et Marco Paladini, avec la collaboration de Campanotto Editore. Le magazine est distribué en Italie par les librairies Feltrinelli
