Nude of couple presenting clear features of avant-garde painting, but ultimately not exceeding the border of abstraction. Two people (a man and a woman) occupy almost the entire surface intended for the composition. In the arrangement of the characters' movements, a certain contrast between the dynamic silhouette of a woman and a static man can be noticed. Neutral background, dominated by red, which has been "blurred" by adding white to the outline of the figure.
The canvas reveals the influence of avant-garde painting of the late 1950s (which was a reaction to the socialist realism prevailing in the early years of the Polish People's Republic). At the same time, the artist did not decide on the maximum modernization and abstraction, as he did not break with the construction of the object that would reflect reality in an unambiguous way.
Jerzy Teodorowicz (born in 1900 in Borowa near Kiev) was significantly influenced by Russian culture from the very beginning of his life. In 1919 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kiev, which he did not finish due to difficult financial situation. It was most likely the political events that finally forced Teodorowicz to leave his homeland and go to Poland, ahead of the approaching Bolshevik front. Already in 1920, the artist found himself in Włocławek, with which he will be associated throughout his life. Here he started his artistic education interrupted in Kiev. Privately, he studied with Aleksander Laszenka, a painter from Włocławek. It was not until 1945 that he returned to the university - this time to the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, where he studied painting. After graduating in 1950, he took up mainly artistic and organizational activities, as evidenced by his participation in the creation of the so-called Kuyavian group - an association of artists, including Henryka Królikowska, Helena Kuczyńska, Józefa Majchrowicz, Leon Płoszay and Jan Stępień.
