Antique early-20th Century Austrian large and exceptional solid silver & enamel cigar case, of rounded rectangular form, the surface applied with multi-coloured and shaded enamels depicting Leda and the Swan, the reverse is plain, the inside is richly parcel gilt. Leda and the Swan is a story from the Greek mythology in which the king of all gods Zeus, transforms into the form of a swan, to seduces or rape Leda. According to later Greek mythology, Leda gave birth to Helen and Polydeuces, children of Zeus, while at the same time bearing Castor and Clytemnestra, children of her husband Tyndareus, the King of Sparta.
Both sides of the case are Hallmarked with Austrian and German marks, a German mark moon and crescent (800 standard), Vienna (A), Austrian dogs head mark (800 standard), Maker's mark G.A.S for Scheid Georg Adam, active in Vienna (Austria), Scheid completed a commercial apprenticeship until 1853 and subsequently worked in Pforzheim and Stuttgart. In 1858 he went to Vienna and worked there in the workshop of his future father-in-law, the silverware producer and jeweler Michael Markowitsch. Together they founded the OHG Markowitsch & Scheid in 1862. 20 years later, he left the thriving company and founded in 1882 under his name a jewelry factory and 1884 also the Georg Adam Scheid'sche Affinerie, from which later the Ögussa emerged. In 1911 he retired. His jewelry works bear the marks ''G.A.S. '' or ''S.G.A. '' and often the German hallmark ''Crescent and Crown''

Grand et exceptionnel étui à cigare autrichien du début du XXe siècle en argent massif et émaillé, de forme rectangulaire arrondie, la surface est recouverte d'émaux multicolores et nuancés représentant Léda et le Cygne, le revers est uni, l'intérieur est richement doré par paquets. Léda et le cygne est une histoire de la mythologie grecque dans laquelle le roi de tous les dieux, Zeus, se transforme en forme de cygne, pour séduire ou violer Léda. Selon la mythologie grecque ultérieure, Léda a donné naissance à Hélène et à Polydeuces, enfants de Zeus, tout en portant Castor et Clytemnestre, enfants de son mari Tyndareus, le roi de Sparte.
Les deux parties de l'affaire sont marquées des marques autrichiennes et allemandes, d'une lune et d'un croissant allemands (800 standard), de Vienne (A), de la marque de tête de chiens autrichiens (800 standard), de la marque de fabricant G.A.S pour Scheid Georg Adam, actif à Vienne (Autriche), Scheid a effectué un apprentissage commercial jusqu'en 1853 et a ensuite travaillé à Pforzheim et Stuttgart. En 1858, il se rend à Vienne et y travaille dans l'atelier de son futur beau-père, le producteur d'argenterie et joaillier Michael Markowitsch. Ensemble, ils ont fondé l'OHG Markowitsch & Scheid en 1862. Vingt ans plus tard, il quitte cette entreprise florissante et fonde en 1882 sous son nom une fabrique de bijoux et en 1884 également l'Affinerie Georg Adam Scheid'sche, d'où émergera plus tard l'Ögussa. En 1911, il prend sa retraite. Ses bijoux portent les marques ''G.A.S.'' ou ''S.G.A.'' et souvent le poinçon allemand ''Crescent and Crown''
