Snarkitecture's latest project brings summer to downtown D.C.

Life's a Beach

Beginning this week, Snarkitecture brings The Beach to downtown D.C. The Brooklyn-based experimental design-architecture studio has taken over the National Building Museum's Great Hall with an all-white, summer-inspired, 10,000-square-foot interactive installation featuring a 50-foot shoreline and an ocean of nearly one million recyclable, translucent plastic balls. Visitors are encouraged to "swim" in the ocean, relax among the monochromatic beach chairs and umbrellas, dangle their feet off a pier, and even grab a drink from the soon-to-arrive snack bar.
