Newly opened at London's Design Museum and curated by design wizards Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, In The Making is a fascinating and eclectic collection of designed objects presented mid-manufacture, shedding light on the rarely seen beauty of production processes. The overwhelming amount of rave reviews for the show goes to show that people are super-intrigued by how things are made and where they come from.

Edward and Jay are certainly at the forefront of design today. Their practice now boasts three successful arms: the Barber Osgerby studio originates products for some of the world's best manufacturers; Universal Design Studio, an innovative creative consultancy working in architecture, interiors, and exhibition design; and MAP, a strategy-based studio that provides design intuition, creative direction and research to ambitious clients.

When I asked them about the show, they had this to say:

“We love seeing how things are made. Both of us spent our childhoods making model aeroplanes, bows and arrows, fireworks—in fact anything we could think of! In this exhibition we have taken 24 objects—each representing a different manufacturing technique—part way through their metamorphosis from raw material to finished design. Each reveals an unseen stage in the process, often displaying a more beautiful object than the final product.”
