An exhibition at 1950 Gallery
George Nakashima
NYC's 1950 Gallery is hosting George Nakashima Woodworker, a fantastic show spanning the career of the master designer-craftsman, from the 1940s until his passing in 1990. Of special note, the exhibition includes never-before-seen works from the Shoki collection, which was designed by Nakashima in 1941 but produced posthumously in 2009 by his daughter, Mira. Other highlights include nearly 50 archival photos courtesy of the Richener Art Museum (some great ones below!).
The show launched with a fascinating talk by Mira Nakashima last week, and runs through the end of May. And, as gallery director Alberto Aquilino tells us, the exhibition is "a really special opportunity to look at Nakashima's process and entire career's work—all together in one space."
