Tsukroi is a series of three plates in Urushi lacquered glass - a traditional Japanese lacquer. This series draws inspiration from kintsugi, a Japanese technique for repairing ceramic objects that involves using gold or liquid silver to weld together broken fragments; every repaired ceramic presents an interweaving of unique silver lines because of the randomness with which it can shatter. Urushi lacquer is a Japanese natural lacquer traditionally used for lacquering wood. The artisan Maruyoshi Kosaka was the first to find the right formula for painting this lacquer on to glass, obtaining surprising effects. This set was designed in 2017, and this single plate is the Tsukroi 1 in blue from the collection.
