Futurism, Airplane, 1930 Provenance : Collection Romano Lorenzin,Milan Italy TATO, pseudonym of Guglielmo Sansoni (Bologna 1896 - Rome 1974) Self-taught, painter, sculptor, writer, ceramist, set designer and photographer, Tato is a versatile Italian futurist artist, one of the main protagonists of aeropainting. In 1920 he organized a fake funeral to "die" like Guglielmo Sansoni and be reborn as a futurist Tato. He meets Filippo Tommaso Marinetti for the first time in Bologna in 1922 and becomes his friend. Among the promoters of the Bolognese futurist group, in 1924 he settled in Rome and in 1929 he was among the signatories of the Aeropainting Manifesto. His goal is a painting that breaks the traditional schemes of the triple dimension, which gives the sign of freedom in the spaces and knows how to simultaneously merge, intersect, break the rigid line, the air, the land and the sea to reproduce the visual spectrum of the landscape in flight and transmit the infinite, very fast variety of sensations that are experienced during that experience. In September 1930 he organized the first national photographic competition with Marinetti and, between that year and the following, they elaborated the Manifesto of Futurist photography. He carries out the decorations for the Nicelli airport in Venice and for the post office buildings in Trento and Palermo. In 1941 he wrote the autobiography Tato RacconTato da Tato. A complex personality, whose intense and inexhaustible activity has developed over 60 years.
