Dino Gavina was the first licensee of Le Corbusier design. In 1965 Gavina merged into the Cassina company, maintaining the possibility of continuing to sell many of the products that Cassina acquired in its own shop in Bologna.
Dino Gavina started from afar, in the late 1940s, in a upholstery laboratory in via Castiglione in Bologna. He goes to him the merit of having finally aroused an Italian design corrupted by Swiss imitations of Scandinavian design, passed off by modern. Gavina looks at Milan and the three -year -olds, where in 1954, the year of foundation of the Compasso d'oro, intercepting Lucio Fontana and "those good architects" who were not yet called designers: Marco Zanuso, Luigi Caccia Domination, Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Ignazio Gardella, Enzo Mari, Vico Magistretti. This pyrotechnic circle of designers becomes immeasurable with the arrival of Carlo Scarpa, made possible by the common friendship of Gavina with Aldo Businaro, the one who prompted Cassina to acquire, among the many, also the rights of Le Corbusier furniture.
